Lyrics

Plastic giants, money science rules our dying land,
Old school ties and whiplash lies, credits out of hand,
Mortgaged souls, debt’s own goals tying people down,
A vicious circle wrapping round.

The fragrance of the lavender, the crystal morning dew,
The blessing of the summer sun, sweet memories of you.

Up in the Sky, a Friday night the match is being played,
Whilst on the ground the sponsors' deal, the chairman’s being paid,
Sportsmanship is kicked around, the rules have all been changed,
The game is up; the whistle’s blown.

What’s it all coming to?
A face, a place, points of view,
Is there nothing left to do?
Disappear without trace,
A slide, a tide, a fall from grace,
Overcome within this place,
Spiralling down.

Give them an inch; they take a yard, we’re measuring the loss,
Slow poisoning from fast food chains, a clown is now the boss,
Synthetic pubs, fake atmosphere, watering the yield,
A rich harvest from misused fields.

The skylark in a deep blue sky, a sparkling winter stream,
A fresh breeze through the woodland shade now only in my dreams.

What’s it all coming to?
A face, a place, points of view,
Is there nothing left to do?
Disappear without trace,
A slide, a tide, a fall from grace,
Overcome within this place.
Now we’re veering off the track,
A knock, a shock, a broken back,
Shall we all start fighting back,
Or spiralling down?

Notes

This live version was performed at Prime's penultimate gig at Doc's, Southsea in January 1996. The sample is inexplicably clipped at beginning and end - presumably a bad edit from the original cassette recording.

Instrumentation:
Math Charlton - Bass guitar and vocal
Rob Charlton - Electric guitar
Paul Smith - Drum kit
