Lyrics

It was a very cold day,
And I stood in the waning sun,
Drawing on a cigarette,
And watching rising columns of smoke.

And on those wispy breaths of white,
I saw a little part of me,
Float upward to the sky,
It was the stuff of life,
Ethereal yet rife.

Oxygen, oxygen, oxygen - watch it burning...

I take the oxygen into my lungs, it pours through my veins,
(Breathe in - breath out...)
It fills me with life, it robs me of life,
Watch me breathing, watch me breathing,
Oxygen.

And when I exhale,
I've burned up part of my life,
Just smoke from an ageing lung,
That curls into the sky,
Oxygen.

One day I'd breathe one last time,
And my life would disappear,
Into the stratosphere,
Oh my oxygen, oh my oxygen,
Do you suck the life out of me?

Free radicals,
Rising so high,
They almost touch the sky,
My oxygen.
Oh my oxygen.

Notes

Oxygen is a 'serious' remake of a wacky improvisation by Usfun recorded by James Newcombe (keyboards, programming and vocals) and Math Charlton (guitar, bass and vocals). This was one of a number of recordings made by Usfun to consolidate improvised material into a finished article.
