James began as a prolific songwriter using software on a Commodore Amiga in the late 1980s and early 1990s to produce fully orchestracted pieces.
In 1995, he met Rob Charlton at Fareham College and Rob convinced him to join Prime. He played a couple of gigs in 1996 with them before Prime disbanded. He went on to play a few more gigs in a covers band called The Invisible Brothers with Rob later that year.
James and ex-Prime member Math Charlton began performing improvised music in 1997 under the moniker Usfun, which in various guises still continues today. He was further involved with Friends of Brutal Architecture from 2006, providing keyboards on their EPonymous EP.
Since then he has penned a multitude of further albums and written and arranged the music for two pantomimes performed earlier this century. He continues to write and record music.
